Schengen Visa Travel/ Health/ Accident Insurance
One of the queries that we sometimes get is surrounding the Schengen Visa and the Travel/ Health insurance that is needed.
Often, the person travelling is in the age group of 20 - 30 and not necessarily already covered via a local medical aid scheme.
(Some of the local medical aid schemes will be able to give you a certficate of coverage which would be acceptable for Visa purposes.)
This means that the person wanting to obtain a Visa for the Schengen area would need to obtain travel health insurance to get the Visa (a quote is not acceptable).
The Schengen area are the following countries:
Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.
ihi Bupa have a product that has been designed specifically to meet the requirements of the Visa application:
- minimum medical coverage of €30 000
- the policy number and dates of cover must appear on the document
- no quotes will be accepted
- the insurance must cover costs for emergency treatment, hospitalisation, urgent ambulance transportation and medical evacuation back to the home country
The application for the cover can be captured by the broker/ agent online. However, they cannot be captured online by the client.
So an application form needs to be completed.
The premiums for this cover are cheaper than the Worldwide Travel Options (also by ihi Bupa), as the cover amount is for €30 000 and not unlimited as in the Worldwide Travel Options.
You can choose between different options, depending on how long and how often you travel to the Schengen area.
Single trip cover from 3 days up to 62 days.
Multiple trip cover within a 90 days, 182 days or 365 days period.
The benefits are the same for all options, only the period of cover and the premiums vary.
